Bonds/Powers
Go to Table of Contents

Quick Write.  The easiest and fastest way to write a bond/power and to capture the minimum relevant data is through Quick Write.  This is accessed directly from the Navigation menu. 

General Agents may choose to record bond/power records through the Batch Input Process.

The following processes are all started with a Bond/Power record. 

  Exonerate a Bond/Power
Post a Bond/Power Motions
Posting a Transfer Bond Record a Forfeiture
Inserting a Transfer Bond into inventory Collateral
Reassign Inventory within a BARS account Rewriting a Bond/Power

The Bond/Power Window opens with a list of current inventory (Bond/Powers) appearing at the bottom of the Search Frame  Clicking on one of these Bond/Powers causes that Bond/Power to appear in the focus frame. To create a new Bond/Power record, click Insert New Record in the Search Frame.  To edit the existing record, click Edit in the Focus Frame.

When in the standard view of the Bond/Power pages, the status of the bond/power is displayed.

Bond/Power Searches - Go to - Buttons - Search - Print - Fields - Status - Related Records - Top

Refer to the User Interface for an understanding of the Search Function.

The following searches are available in the Bond/Power drop down Search Menu.  .

Active Bonds for an Agent Requests Agent ID.
Bonds for an Insurance Company Requests the Insurance Company ID.
Bonds Written for a Period Requests the From and To Dates.
Bonds Reported for a Period Requests the From and To Dates.
Bonds Issued for a Period Requests the From and To Dates.
Big Bonds List Returns a list of all bonds $25,000 or greater
Current Bond Inventory Returns a list of all bonds currently held in inventory.
Inventory for Date Received Requests the date the bonds/powers were received.
Bonds with a Balance Due Returns a list of all bonds with a balance outstanding.
Bonds for a Case Requests the Case ID.
Bonds for a Bond Number Requests the Bond ID.

Rewriting a Bond/Power - Go to - Buttons - Search - Print - Fields - Status - Related Records - Top

First, write/post the new Bond/Power in the usual way. Next, go to the old (original) Bond/Power and select Rewrite Calculator from the Do menu at the top of the View page. The detailed instructions for using the Calculator will appear in the Relations Frame.

If multiple bonds are being written to replace the original bond/power, write/post all of the replacement bonds/powers and then use the Rewrite calculator to re-allocate premiums from the original bond/Power. Again the Calculator is available in the Do menu on the Bond View page.


Print - Go to - Buttons - Search - Print - Fields - Status - Related Records - Top

Print Page Prints the current Bond/Power view page.  This is the same as click the print button in the browser.
Print Disclosure Prints the Bond/Power disclosure
Print Bail Bond App Prints the bail bond application
Print Bond Cover Sheet Prints the bond power cover sheet

Fields - Go to - Buttons - Search - Print - Fields - Status - Related Records - Top

Bond/Power ID  The bond/power number.
Defendant Name  The legal name of the defendant
Written The date the bond/power is written.
Amount The face amount of the bond/power.

Status - Go to - Buttons - Search - Print - Fields - Status - Related Records - Top

The status fields show the current status of the Bond/Power.  Status options are Yes or No.  They are set by actions taken elsewhere in the system.  To edit the existing record, click Edit in the Focus Frame. 

Active?
Bonds are active when they are written, but not yet exonerated or voided.
Collateral Rcvd?
This is marked Yes when collateral has been received to secure the bond.
Written?
This is marked Yes when the bond has been written or posted with a court.
Collateral Rtn?
This is marked Yes when collateral has been returned to the indemnitor.
Reported?
This is marked Yes when the bond has been reported to the surety as written.
Forfeiture?
Indicates that the bond is currently in forfeiture.
Exonerated?
This is marked Yes when  the bond has been exonerated.
Held to Answer?
This is marked Yes when the defendant has been held to answer in superior court.
Complete?
This is marked Yes when the bond is exonerated, voided, or a forfeiture has been paid.
Superior Court?
This is marked when the current court is a superior court.
Transferred?
This is marked Yes when the bond has been transferred from the agent it was issued to.
Motion?
This is marked Yes when a Motion has been written to request that a forfeiture be set aside.
Void?
This is marked Yes when a bond is voided.
Demand/Judge?
This is marked Yes when a payment of a forfeiture has been demanded.
Sub-Bond/Rewrite?
This is marked Yes when this is a replacement bond.
Set Aside?
This is marked Yes when a forfeiture has been set aside.
Multiple Bonds?
This is marked Yes when this bond is one of several used to cover one arrest.
Forfeiture Paid?
This is marked Yes when a forfeiture has been paid.
Power Printed?
This will be used in future versions of BARS.
Send Checker?
This is used to mark a bond to come up on a Send Checker report.

Dates & Reporting

Issued The date the Bond/Power was issued to the agent by the surety.
Written The date the Bond/Power was written or posted.
Expires The date the Bond/Power expires.
Premium Renewal The date that another premium will due on the Bond/Power.
Execution Report Date The date the Bond/Power was reported to the surety as written.
Execution Report Number The number of the execution report sent to the surety.
Surety Report Date The date the surety processes the execution report.  Used by Associated, International, and Allegheny only.
Surety Report Number The surety's report number.
Surety Reporting ID The agent ID


Exoneration Information

Exoneration Date Self explanatory
Exon Report Date The date the Bond/Power was reported to the surety as exonerated.
Exon Info Via How did you learn of the exoneration?
Exonerated By Who entered the exoneration information?
Exon Entry Date The date the exoneration information was entered.
 

Miscellaneous Information

Linked Bond/Power Number If this is a replacement Bond/Power, this field contains the number of the replaced Bond/Power.  If this is the replaced Bond/Power, this field contains the number of the replacement Bond/Power.
Transfer Agent ID The ID of the agent who originally held the Bond/Power.
Transfer Agent Name The name of the agent who originally held the Bond/Power.
Limit The maximum amount the Bond/Power can be written for.
Bond/Power Prefix  The prefix portion of the Bond/Power number.
Bond/Power Serial# The serialized suffix portion of the Bond/Power number.
Defendant Premium The Bond/Power amount times the defendant premium rate.  This field is calculated by BARS.
Charged Defendant Premium The amount actually charged to the defendant.
Expenses Total The total of all expense records related to the bond.
Grand Total The charged premium plus the expenses total.
Payment Total The total of all payment records related to the bond.
Balance Due The grand total less the payment total.
Commission   The amount paid to the agent who wrote the bond.
Commission Paid Date The date the commission was paid.
Surety Contract ID This identifies which surety contract record was used to calculate the amounts in the bond.
Surety ID The identifier for the surety this bond is reported to.
Insurance Company ID The Insurance Company underwriting the Bond/Power. 
Surety Reporting ID The identifier the surety uses to designate this contract agent.
Surety Premium Rate Expressed as a fraction of the bond amount, this is the amount paid to  the surety for the bond. Example: .013.
Surety Premium The premium paid to the surety.
Policy Fee The flat, additional charges applied to some bonds in California.
Reserve Account Calculated Amount The bond amount times the reserve account percentage.
Reserve Account Amount Paid  The amount actually paid to the surety.
File# For internal use.
Defendant ID The unique identifier of the related defendant record.
Agency ID  The unique identifier of the related agency record.
Agency Name The name of the agency writing the bond.
Agent ID  The unique identifier of the related agent record.
Agent Name The name of the agent writing the bond.

Expenses Premiums and other expenses charged against the "account" of the Bond/Power.
Collateral Collateral received to secure the Bond/Power, including signatures.
Event Log Records changes in status to the Bond/Power.  All log entries are made by BARS and may only viewed by the user.
Bond Courts This is a log of bond related courts.  This includes the original court in which to appear, any subsequent courts that have been entered in the bond record, forfeiture record or motion record..
Payments Payment made for premiums and expenses for the Bond/Power.
Forfeitures Forfeitures related to the bond.
Motions Motion related to forfeitures for the bond.
Contact The person who supplied the information used to write this bond.
Negotiator The person who negotiated the terms of the bond with the agent.  This record is entered from the bond page and is shown here for informational purposes only.
